Menthol Elf is a gentle children’s storybook world for emotional literacy, big feelings, calm moments, families, and classrooms. The stories help children notice feelings, name them kindly, and try small calming tools with trusted characters from the Valley of Calm.

What Is Menthol Elf?
Menthol Elf is a story-led emotional learning world for children aged 4-11. It is built around gentle adventures, feeling-friendly characters, and practical resources that can be used at home, in story time, in calm corners, and in classroom wellbeing conversations.
The world is designed to make big feelings feel natural, nameable, and easier to understand with kind support. Children can talk about what Menthol Elf notices before they have to talk about their own feelings directly.
Welcome To The Valley Of Calm
The Menthol Elf stories take place in the Valley of Calm, where nature gently reflects what children may feel inside. Worry might drift like mist through Worry Woods. Calm may return beside Calmwater Creek. Confidence may grow slowly beneath the leaves of Confidence Canopy.
Some places help children pause, breathe, listen, try again, or take one small brave step. The Valley is imaginative, but its purpose is simple: it gives children safe language for feelings that can otherwise feel too large or too hard to explain.
Meet Menthol Elf
Menthol Elf is curious, gentle, and observant. He notices changes in the Valley, listens before rushing in, and helps children understand that feelings are never something to be shamed. His peppermint sparkle dust is a soft pause cue: it can help everyone slow down, notice, and breathe, but it never makes feelings vanish instantly.
Along the way, Menthol Elf is joined by other Valley guides, including Willow the Wise Fox, Bumble the Brave Bee, Nora the Noticing Gnome, and Freddie the Encouraging Firefly. Each friend brings a different emotional tool, such as noticing body clues, taking a steady breath, asking for help, or trying one small step.
Who Menthol Elf Is For
- Children learning to recognise, name, and talk about big feelings.
- Families using story time to open gentle emotional conversations.
- Teachers, pastoral staff, and school leaders supporting PSHE, wellbeing, calm corners, and emotional literacy.
- Adults who want language that reassures children without rushing feelings away.
How The Stories Help
Each Menthol Elf story focuses on one main emotional challenge and one practical support. The stories may explore worry, sadness, confidence, frustration, new beginnings, friendship wobbles, or moments when a child feels unsure.
The aim is not to fix a feeling quickly. The aim is to help children notice what is happening, name it with kindness, understand that feelings can be carried safely, and practise one small tool they can return to another day.
Stories, Resources, And Gentle Tools
Menthol Elf includes storybook adventures, character guides, maps of the Valley of Calm, and printable resources for home and school. These resources are designed to sit alongside the stories, helping children revisit the same calm language during real-life moments such as bedtime worries, first-day nerves, friendship upsets, or tricky transitions.
A Gentle Boundary
Menthol Elf supports emotional literacy, family conversation, and school wellbeing discussion. It is not therapy, counselling, crisis support, safeguarding advice, or a replacement for professional help where a child needs additional support.
